RailsConf sells close to 3/4s of the seats, RailsConf EU Request for Proposal open
Posted by David February 11, 2007 @ 05:15 PM
RailsConf has sold close to three quarters of the available seats for the May 17-20 show at an amazing rate. It’s only been a week since we opened for registrations. So it’s naturally wonderful to see that level of excitement even as our venue this year can accommodate a ton more people than last year. This certainly looks like it’ll be another sold out RailsConf shortly.
And hot on the heels of RailsConf in Portland, we’ve just opened up the Request for Proposals for RailsConf Europe, which will take place in Berlin between September 17-19. Last year RailsConf EU was a bit more of a sleeper hit than the Chicago show, but turned out absolutely fantastic with loads of exclusive and all-new content. With Berlin being a significantly cheaper city than London and part of mainland Europe, we’ll no doubt have an even greater show.
So get your proposals ready for RailsConf Europe. And if you haven’t already, snatch one of the last seats for RailsConf in Portland.

David, what percentage of the take do you get to keep? You should make that availble to the community for transparency’s sake.
Fanboys: Please.
@UserNameGuy – RailsConf is production of Ruby Central + O’Reilly. Or are you asking if DHH gets a license fee or something for ventures that use the Rails brand? Or if DHH gets a fee for presenting?
My guestimation is that having 1000s of people idolise your OSS project is payment enough.
But hey, cash is good too. Anyone want to start a Dr Nic’s Magic Models conference and pay me? :)
Let’s see…
1. DHH and crew build and release a kick-ass framework that you can download for free
2. DHH and crew provide source code for said kick-ass framework for free
We, the RoR community, have benefited immensely from the release of Rails.
Why do you think that DHH or any of the folks behind Rails should divulge the earnings they make from this framework?
How much have you personally paid DHH and crew for the use of Rails? I’m betting not a penny? And how much have you earned building Rails apps? Hmmm…
DHH, Marcel, Rick… Keep up the good work. And keep collecting that salary.
BTW, if the post was a troll… You got me.
I’ll respond to the trollbait with a simple “Thanks” to DHH and Rails Core team for all the great work. Rails has changed the way I work and I’m looking forward to RailsConf 2007.
Well said Chris, I agree with you 100%
I want to go to RailsConf but two things are keeping me back. One, its in Portland, which I would love to visit, but I live on the east coast so I would miss half of Wed, all day Thurs and Fri and probably part of Monday. And since my employer hasn’t discovered Rails yet, I’d be going by myself.
Second, I’d rather put the money to better use by attending a Rails Studio. I’m just waiting to see when another one is announced on the East Coast.
Count me in for RailsConf 2008. I promise I’ll be going to that one.
Jeff, if you’re on the East coast, come on over to Berlin in September for RailsConf Europe :)
Chad, I’m looking forward to Berlin! It looks like Oktoberfest in Munich starts up just 3 days after RailsConf. Coincidence, or fate?
Oktoberfest will be from Sep, 22nd til Oct, 7th.
Great timing! :-)
Looking forward to seeing you guys. Greetings from Munich
Mike and phil, lucky coincidence I guess! See you there! ;)
I”m really looking forward to RailsConf, I’m waiting on approval form my company, I just hope they decide before it’s sold out!!!
Oh, and thanks to the Rails Core team for the fantastic work!!!! I’ve used everything from .Net to Cold Fusion and PHP but RoR is truly amazing!!!
I’d like to see a Rails conference on the east coast too.
